Advertising in Japan - Media Buying for the Indonesian Tourist Board
Rathbone Media have been appointed out of many advertising agencies to undertake the media planning and buying for the Indonesian Tourist Board in Japan focussing on promoting what Indonesia has to offer as a holiday destination for the Japanese traveller. The campaign will begin by utilising regional and national Japanese TV as well as regional & national press in Japan. We also hope to introduce digital advertising throughout the course of the campaign.
With 17,504 tropical islands fringed with beautiful sandy beaches, many uninhabited and a number still even unnamed, the Republic of Indonesia is the largest achipelago in the world. Indonesia is situated between the continents of Australia and Asia and between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, straddling the equator. She boasts a total population of over 215 million from more than 200 ethnic groups. Bahasa Indonesia is the national language.
Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, the Maluku Islands and Papua are amonst the most popular islands. The most popular destination being Bali, "the world's best island resort" with its enchanting culture, beaches, dynamic dances and music. With an array of rainforests to trek through, rolling waves to surf and deep blue pristine seas to dive in where one can swim with dugongs, dolphins and large mantarays, Indonesia is a truely magical destination for any tourist.
Thanks to her location and geology, Indonesia is blessed with an amazingly diverse lanscape. Fertile ricelands on Java and Bali, luxurious rainforests of Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, the savannah grasslands of the Nusatenggara islands, and snow-capped peaks of West Papua. The scenery and imagery is simply wonderful.
There is an abundance of wildlife in Indonesia. From the prehistoric giant Komodo lizard to the Orang Utan and the Java rhino, to the Sulawesi anoa dwarf buffalos, to birds with exquisite plumage like the bird of paradise. Other inhabitants include the Rafflesia; the world's largest flower, wild orchids, a plethora of spices, aromatic hardwood and a large variety of fruit trees. Underwater, there are hundreds of species and colourful coral and tropical fish to cast your eyes upon. Scientists have even found in North Sulawesi the prehistoric coelacanth fish, a "living fossil" fish, predating the dinosaurs living some 400 million years ago. Whales also migrate yearly through these waters from the South Pole.

Drug & Alcohol advertising by Rathbone Media - Mephedrone for EDAAT.
In light of the government's decision to ban Mephedrone and related cathinones, Rathbone Media, one of the largest advertising agencies in the South-East, have launched a social media marketing campaign working with EDAAT.
The ban is in effect as of today (16th April), preventing manufacturers tweaking the substances to get around the law.
Drugs are classified according to the harm they cause. The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD), who advise the government on such matters, say that Mephedrone is similar to amphetamines such as Speed and should be classified as a class B drug.
This means that from today it will be illegal to sell or possess these substances. As a result of this change in the law, there will be a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in jail and an unlimited fine for possession, and 14 years in jail and an unlimited fine for supply & trafficking. The importation of these substances into the country has already recently been banned.
Donia Slyzuk, Strategic Manager Essex Drug & Alcohol Action Team said:
"Just because something says it's legal, doesn't mean it's safe or harmless to use. We are fully supportive of the government's commitment to tackle their emerging threat by making these substances illegal as of today. The Essex Drug & Alcohol Partnership are wholly committed to providing good quality information, advice and education to our communities for all drugs including 'Legal Highs' and commission a number of services to treat and rehabilitate users. Today we have launched a campaign to raise awareness of the health harms of Mephedrone and other so called 'Legal Highs' and to highlight what the new law means to our communities."
Although the risks are now becoming increasingly clear, there is still concern that no one really knows what the exact dangers of Mephdrone are. The current scientific evidence is limited but self reports from users and clinical observations by doctors do suggest that Mephedrone can:
On the 16th April, EDAP and Rathbone Media launch a 4-week online social media campaign targeting 16-34 year olds in Essex to raise awareness of the new law and its implications whilst also highlighting health harms.

Fila Heritage, F-13 and Wimbledon!
Rathbone Media have been Fila's advertising agency for over 3 years now. Over the last few months, Rathbone and Fila have been hard at work with the launch of their re-modelled F-13 trainer and the re-launch of the vintage Terrinda jacket. Fila are also pleased to announce they are once again the official footwear sponsor of Wimbledon 2010!
Rising to supremacy during the casuals boom of the late 70’s and early 80’s, Fila was one of an exclusive group of now iconic names to redefine sportswear and move to the forefront of streetwear fashion. Back in the day, Fila earned its reputation as a maverick of sports fashion by bringing ground breaking and challenging designs to a clothing market that was, until then, steeped in mundane functionality. It’s a rich and invaluable heritage which still resonates in the brands collections today, and nowhere more so than in the Fila Vintage and Fila Gold lines.
In recognition of the brands rich heritage, the Fila Vintage Collection looks back to the various eras that helped define the Fila that we know today. White Line harks back to a time when Bjorn Borg ruled the courts and Fila produced some of the most iconic pieces in sport – garments from the Settanta Collection, like the Terrinda jacket (pictured), which now take their rightful place in the Fila Vintage Collection. Fila’s classic styling and technical prowess also swept through the alpine skiing world. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s the F-box adorned some of the biggest legends of the skiing world, appearing on podiums with the likes of Ingemar Stenmark, Reinhold Messner and Alberto Tomba. Today, the Snow Time collection draws on this golden era of the sport, with designs reflecting the avant-garde tastes of the sporting elite and offering a sophisticated take on the sports-fashion crossover that is still just as relevant today.
Fila’s new licensing agreement with The Championships at Wimbledon, brings Fila back to the grand stage where Bjorn Borg first put Fila on the map in the world of sport. For a glimpse of Fila's tennis footwear, visit the official Wimbledon online shop.
Due for launch on the 12th April, Rathbone Media are proud to announce an exclusive JD Sports campaign for Fila's re-modelled F-13 trainer. The F-13 hi-top design dates back to 1987 and it's great to see Fila getting back into the 'kicks' business. Rathbone have already begun promotion with the prestigious, high impact outdoor advertising site - The Piccadilly Lite site - along with a 600+ 6-sheet campaign within the vicinity of JD stores throughout London. Further plans are underway to bolster the campaign.
